Nestled in the lush forests of Northern California, the Goddess Games Disc Golf Tournament has become a celebrated annual event in Humboldt County, drawing women disc golfers from across the region and beyond. Founded nearly two decades ago, the tournament was born out of a desire to create a welcoming, empowering space for women in the sport of disc golf—a sport traditionally dominated by men. Hosted by Par Infinity, Humboldt County’s premier disc golf club, the Goddess Games has grown into a vibrant celebration of athleticism, community, and feminine strength.
The inaugural Goddess Games took place in the mid-2000s, spearheaded by a group of passionate local disc golfers who wanted to spotlight women’s participation in the sport. From its humble beginnings, the tournament quickly gained traction, thanks to its inclusive atmosphere, scenic courses, and the dedication of its organizers. Over the years, the event has evolved into a multi-day experience, often featuring camping, social gatherings, and even co-ed events like men’s random doubles at the nearby Redwood Curtain course.
Held annually at the Fieldbrook Disc Golf Course in North Coastal Humboldt County, the tournament is known for its challenging layout and natural beauty. The course winds through redwood groves and open meadows, offering a picturesque yet demanding setting for competition. Participants compete in various divisions, including FPO (Female Pro Open), FA1 (Female Amateur 1), and FP40 (Female Pro 40+), among others. The event typically includes two rounds of 18 holes, with scores tallied to determine winners in each category.
One of the hallmarks of the Goddess Games is its emphasis on community and camaraderie. Players are greeted with coffee and mimosas during check-in, and the tournament often includes a lunch break with food provided for all participants. Awards and raffles follow the final round, with prizes donated by local sponsors and supporters. The event also features a unique “booby pipes” prize for the men’s doubles winners—a playful nod to the tournament’s lighthearted spirit.
The 18th Annual Goddess Games, held in 2024, exemplified the event’s enduring appeal. Directed by Michelle Lopez, Katie Pixley, and Chelsea Belden, the tournament welcomed dozens of players and supporters. Camping at Area 74, a rustic site near the course, added to the communal vibe, with participants bonding over shared meals and stories around the campfire. Despite challenges like poison oak and stinging nettle on the course, the event was a resounding success, showcasing the resilience and enthusiasm of its players.
Now entering its 19th year in 2025, the Goddess Games continues to thrive, thanks to the tireless efforts of Par Infinity and the local disc golf community. It stands as a testament to the power of grassroots organizing and the importance of creating inclusive spaces in sports. More than just a tournament, the Goddess Games is a celebration of women’s strength, skill, and spirit—an annual tradition that has firmly rooted itself in the heart of Humboldt County.
